PLSS Maps

The PLSS is a way of subdividing land in the US. It is used to divide lands owned by the federal government . They were created to help citizens of the U.S.  Since these maps were generated many changes have been made in regards to public lands - some are now privately owned or vice versa.  These kinds of maps generally show major portions of some of the southern and western states, divided into 6 mile square segments on down to smaller segments.

This is a PLSS map showing the principle meridians and baselines for Franklin County, Alabama.
