Choropleth Maps

"Nominal Area" Choropleth maps are used to show nominal data over a certain region. This data is defined as categorical data where the order of the categories is arbitrary.
Above is an example of nominal data (USA) mapped to colors. Notice that the colors aren't in an organized scale in any sense. There are no obvious color ramps to imply order. We simply map nominal values onto discrete colors.
